The avenues of research pursued in this department are towards the genetic engineering
of crops like rice, blackgram, cardamom, coffee, potato and bhendi for resistance to
biotic (viruses, fungi) and abiotic (salinity, drought) stresses. Other major
interests are studies on the mechanism of T-DNA transfer by Agrobacterium, regulation
of nitrate reductase, molecular biology of plant viruses and structure of virus coat
proteins.
