The Department faculty are involved in research and teaching in the areas of genetic engineering, biophysics, bioinformatics, immunology and immunotechnology.

The areas of research work involve :

  1. Genetic manipulation of gram positive bacteria especially Streptomyces for production of antitumour antibiotics and chitinolytic enzymes
  2. Genome analysis of mycobacteria and the early events associated with the infection of leprosy
  3. strucutral bioinformatics of membrane proteins and protein-nucleic acid interactions
  4. molecular modelling of nucleic acids
  5. Pathogenecity and immunodiagnosis of silk worm pathogen Nosema bombycis and
  6. use of computer algorithms for biological analysis.
