The Department faculty are involved in research and teaching in the areas of genetic
engineering, biophysics, bioinformatics, immunology and immunotechnology. The areas of
research work involve :
- Genetic manipulation of gram positive bacteria especially
Streptomyces for production of antitumour antibiotics and chitinolytic enzymes
-
Genome analysis of mycobacteria and the early events associated with the infection of
leprosy
- strucutral bioinformatics of membrane proteins and protein-nucleic acid
interactions
- molecular modelling of nucleic acids
- Pathogenecity and
immunodiagnosis of silk worm pathogen Nosema bombycis and
- use of
computer algorithms
for biological analysis.
