SERVICES

Information access and retrieval - computational assistance and high resolution graphics system and software access in the areas of Molecular Modelling. This is mainly used by the college community in general for teaching and project purposes. The research community from Universities utilise this for specific requirements. The college community is primarily handled through dedicated Technician. The research community is mostly handled by the faculty and students.

MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT

The Bioinformatics Centre has been conducting an Advanced Diploma Course in Bioinformatics since 1996-97. The course is for one year and cover theoretical and computational aspects of sequence analysis, structural analysis, molecular interactions, programming (C, Perl, Python), web programming (XML, Java) and database development (SQL). The students also undertake a project work in the above areas guided by faculty. So far 67 students have completed the course and been placed

The Certificate Course in Bioinformatics was offered in collaboration with Amrutanjan Biotech for three months at Chennai. Currently the course is not offered. Apart from this, courses on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics are offered to the MSc Biotechnology. Research scholars are also working in the area of Bioinformatics. Regular short term workshops in Bioinformatics are conducted involving both experiment and computational aspects.

RESEARCH

Research in the areas involving development of software and databases alongwith the use of Bioinformatics tools has led to publications in national and international journals.
